Most Automatic Electric Motorcycle Do Not Have A Transmission, So How Does The Motor Drive The Wheels?

Automatic Electric Motorcycles are popular among the working class due to their light, fast, clean, pollution-free, and low-noise characteristics due to the use of electric energy as the power source. Everyone is familiar with electric motorcycles, and basically everyone has it. The most special thing is its solid rear wheel, which is a major "standard" of electric motorcycles.

For electric motorcycles, careful people may find that they are basically rear-wheel drive, but there are only axles on both sides of the rear wheels, and the wheels are removed without any attachments and no transmission. So how does the rear wheel drive?

Two-wheeled Electric Vehicle rear wheel

In fact, the problem is very simple. The rear wheel of an Electric Motorcycle is solid, and the solid inside is a motor. This is called a hub motor. The hub motor technology is also called the in-wheel motor technology. Its biggest feature is the power unit, transmission and system. The mechanical parts of the electric vehicle are greatly simplified. During the electrification process of the electric vehicle, the rotor drives the wheel hub to rotate under the action of the magnetic field, thereby driving the entire wheel to rotate, and the electric motorcycle using this type of wheel hub mainly has the following shortcomings. First of all, the quality of electric motorcycles is greater than that of electric bicycles. At this time, a higher-power motor is required to provide power, so that the volume of the motor and the wheel hub will be much larger than the original. Secondly, the power consumption and working current will naturally increase. It should also be increased. If the capacity of the battery is not increased, the power in the battery will be quickly exhausted. If it is replaced by a large battery, it will inevitably increase its weight and cost.

Therefore, the speed and cruising range of the electric motorcycles we are using are not too high.

In-wheel motor

In-wheel motor technology appeared more than 100 years ago. As early as the 1900 Paris World Expo, Ferdinand Porsche, the founder of Porsche, showed a pure electric car called SystemLohner-Porsche designed by him. This electric car is equipped with a hub motor! And under the background of technology at that time, this car can travel 50 kilometers at a speed of 35 kilometers per hour.

But now in-wheel motor technology is mainly used in two-wheeled electric vehicles, and only a very small part of it is used in new energy vehicles, which are basically concept cars. The suspension system causes great inconvenience, and even affects the handling performance of the car, and the cost of a single motor is high. After use, the cost of the whole vehicle increases and the reliability of the vehicle decreases.

Electric motorcycles have this advantage, because they have low power, small size, simple and convenient production, and the space saved can be installed with large-capacity batteries, so we see that most electric motorcycle batteries are under the seat, while similar The model's women's motorcycle seat is under the engine. Therefore, this kind of power method is generally used in electric motorcycles with low power and power requirements.
